Mimica Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Mimica collects, uses, shares, and protects your information. Please read it carefully.

1. Who we are

Mimica is an AI English pronunciation and conversation tutor. It is available as an Android app and through a web account portal at app.mimica.talk.

Mimica is built and operated by Axielo LLC, based in California, USA. For the purposes of data-protection law, Axielo LLC is the controller of your personal information.

2. What we collect

We collect only the data we need to provide the tutoring service:

Email and authentication. When you sign up, we collect your email address and your authentication credentials.
Audio / voice. Your speech recordings captured during tutoring sessions.
Conversation transcripts. The text of your tutoring conversations.
Usage data. Activity metrics such as speaking-seconds, number of turns, and session counts.
Learning data. Your pronunciation error-profile, learning progress, streaks, and CEFR level.
Voice tone cloning (optional). A short enrollment recording that is processed on your device to create a tone seed. See the on-device section below for how both are handled.
Jurisdiction and consent data. When you try to use voice tone cloning, we receive the country and, where available, first-level region (such as a state) derived from the request's current network IP address. We also receive your account identifier, app version, platform, policy and notice versions, request identifier, timestamps, and whether consent was required and given.

We do not sell your personal data, use it for third-party advertising, or share it with data brokers. A tone-consent receipt does not contain your raw IP address, GPS location, home address, enrollment recording, or tone seed.

Website analytics. Our public website (mimica.talk) uses Google Analytics to collect aggregate visit statistics (pages viewed, referral source, approximate location).

3. How we use your data

We use the data described above to:

Provide the core tutoring experience — recognizing your speech, assessing your pronunciation, and generating tutor responses.
Track your learning progress, streaks, error-profile, and CEFR level so the tutor can adapt to you.
Maintain your account and authenticate you when you sign in.
Operate, maintain, and improve the functioning of the service.
Determine whether a location-specific voice-tone-cloning notice and express consent are required, and preserve a limited compliance receipt of the decision.

We do not use voice-tone-cloning jurisdiction or consent data for advertising, marketing, personalization, or AI training. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we do not serve ads.

4. Subprocessors — who we share data with

To power the tutor, we send some of your audio and/or text to the following third-party subprocessors, who process it on Axielo's behalf:

A language-model provider — receives your conversation text to generate the tutor's responses.
A speech-to-text provider — receives your audio and returns a transcript, when speech-to-text runs in the cloud rather than on your device (see the on-device section below).
A pronunciation-assessment provider — receives your audio and returns a pronunciation assessment.

Backend infrastructure

A cloud infrastructure provider hosts our backend in the United States: your account and authentication, stored transcripts, usage and learning data, and tone-consent compliance receipts. Its edge service derives the coarse country and region used for the jurisdiction check.

Payments

Paid subscription tiers are billed through Google Play Billing, with subscription management handled by a subscription-management processor. Axielo does not collect or store your payment card data directly.

5. Voice tone cloning and on-device processing

A core part of Mimica's design is keeping as much as possible on your device. We want to state this honestly, including where it does not apply:

Text-to-speech runs fully on-device. The tutor's spoken voice is generated on your phone, with no cloud involved.
Speech-to-text can run on-device. When it cannot run on-device, it falls back to the cloud speech-to-text provider described above.
Your tone seed stays on-device. If you use voice tone cloning, the short enrollment recording is processed on your device to create a tone seed. The recording is deleted after setup, and the encrypted tone seed stays on that device until you delete it.
No tone upload or secondary use. Axielo does not upload or store your voice-tone-cloning enrollment recording or tone seed on its servers, and does not sell, market, or use either one for advertising or AI training.

Important caveat. Your separate conversation audio and text may be sent to the cloud subprocessors described above in order to run the tutor. The on-device posture for voice tone cloning does not mean your tutoring conversations stay entirely on your device.

Before voice tone cloning begins, our edge provider uses the request's network IP address to derive a current country and, where available, region. We do not ask for GPS access or your home address for this check, and we do not put the raw IP address in the compliance receipt. This coarse network location is not proof of residence and may be wrong, including when a VPN, proxy, mobile carrier, or corporate network is used. If the location is unavailable or uncertain, Mimica may require the location-specific notice and express consent as a precaution.

6. Storage and region

Your account data, transcripts, usage data, learning data, and tone-consent compliance receipts are stored with our cloud infrastructure provider in the United States. Voice-tone-cloning enrollment recordings and tone seeds are not stored there.

7. Retention

Chat messages. Raw chat messages auto-expire after a limited period.
Other data. Your remaining data persists until you delete your account.
Tone-consent receipts. We retain these limited records for the period configured for the applicable jurisdiction. They may remain after account deletion until that period ends where reasonably necessary to comply with law or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

8. Your privacy rights

GDPR (EU / EEA / UK)

If you are in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom, you have rights including the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. Deletion is self-service (see below).

CCPA / CPRA (California)

If you are a California resident, you have rights including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request its deletion. Deletion is self-service (see below).

We do not sell or share your personal information.

9. How to delete your data

You can permanently delete your account and associated service data, subject to the limited legal-retention exception described above. There are two ways to do this:

In the app: Settings → Delete account.
On the web: https://app.mimica.talk/delete

Deleting your account purges your cloud service data and wipes the tone seed on your device. A limited tone-consent receipt may remain until its configured legal-retention period ends.

10. Children

Mimica is intended for users aged 13 and older. It is not designed for or directed at children, and it includes no features targeted at children.

11. Data security

We protect your data with:

Encryption in transit for data sent between your device and our subprocessors.
Android Keystore encryption at rest for your tone seed on your device.

12. International data transfer

Mimica's backend infrastructure and subprocessors process data in the United States. If you use Mimica from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this document.
